The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing shrimp boat captain who fell overboard near Port Aransas, Texas, Sunday. Coast Guard suspends search for shrimp boat captain near Port Aransas, Texas
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing shrimp boat captain who fell overboard near Port Aransas, Texas, Sunday.
Coast Guard crews searched approximately 1,416 square miles for over 32 combined hours.
Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call on VHF-FM channel 16 at about 7 a.m. stating the captain of the shrimp boat Lady Nora had slipped and fallen overboard 7 miles northeast of the Port Aransas jetties.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, while an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew from Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi launched to search for the man. A Coast Guard Station Port Aransas 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew and the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Manta also launched to assist.
Also involved in the search was the crew of the commercial fishing vessel Mr. Webb, as well as other local commercial fishermen.
“Our hearts go out to Mr. Ramirez’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Capt. Hans Govertsen, commanding officer of Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi. “We take solace in the ability of our community to come together in trying times. It was heartwarming to see so many people contribute to this search effort throughout the day.”

The Coast Guard is searching for a 40-year-old man who fell overboard a commercial shrimping vessel near Port Aransas, Texas, Sunday. Missing is Michael Ramirez, who is 6-feet tall, 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a black jacket and boots. Ramirez was not wearing a life jacket. Missing is Michael Ramirez, who is 6-feet tall, 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a black jacket and boots. Ramirez was not wearing a life jacket.
Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call on VHF-FM channel 16 at about 7 a.m. stating the captain of the shrimp boat F/V Lady Nora had slipped and fallen overboard 7 miles northeast of the Port Aransas jetties.

The Coast Guard medevaced a mariner from a fishing vessel approximately two miles offshore Matagorda Bay near Port O’Connor, Texas, Sunday morning. The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a fishing vessel, F/V Lady Nora, for a medevac of a 52-year-old male crewmember experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Port O’Connor, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard medevaced a mariner from a fishing vessel approximately two miles offshore Matagorda Bay near Port O’Connor, Texas, Sunday morning.
The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office received a request from a fishing vessel, F/V Lady Nora, for a medevac of a 52-year-old male crewmember experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders were notified and consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.
An Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Station Port O’ Connor 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew were launched to the scene and transferred the mariner to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the Citizens Medical Center in Victoria.
“Team coordination between both crews allowed for this difficult evolution to be executed with ease,” said Lt. Dan Gilles, Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi aircraft commander. “We are glad we were able to get the gentleman to proper medical care.”
The mariner was reported to be in stable condition.

Commercial Fisherman Gregory Allan Bray of Perryville, R.I., has passed away
Gregory Allan Bray, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on November 17, 2021, surrounded by his family at South County Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Greg was a second-generation commercial fisherman aboard many boats including the F/V “Valiant Lady” and the F/V “Provider”. Most recently, he worked as the Captain of the F/V “Relentless” for more than 30 years. He was well liked and highly respected by all his crew and colleagues. August 5, 2016 – The Honorable Bill Nelson United States Senate Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator Nelson: I am writing to share my strong opposition to S. 3095, The Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act. As the Director of Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Shark Research, which was designated by Congress in 1991 as the nation’s research center for shark studies, I have more than 40 years of experience with this issue. That experience includes biological research, collaborations with fisheries, conservation education, and domestic and international policy work. As an independent, nonprofit research and education institution in Sarasota, Mote’s history of shark expertise goes back to its founding in 1955 by Dr. Eugenie Clark, our famous “Shark Lady.” While possibly well-intentioned as a measure to improve the conservation of sharks, S. 3095 will be ineffective in making a dent in the global problem of shark overfishing. Instead, it will punish the wrong people by putting American commercial fishermen, who are fishing for sharks legally and sustainably, out of business.
