Trawling has “negligible” effect on soft-bottom seafloor

Trawling is continually criticised by environmental advocates for the damage it causes to rocky marine habitats and the long-lived animals that occur in them. However, important questions remain about the extent of any damage to sandy and muddy environments. During the three-year study, fishermen trawled patches of the ocean floor off Morro Bay. Those areas were analysed by underwater photos and video and compared with nearby areas that were untouched. Read more here 07:37

    THERE MAYBE HOPE FOR G.O M. FISHERMEN !! THE GULF OF MAINE AREA IS 80% MUD .

    Well gee, what do you know? Trawlers have been saying that for years all the while the ENGOs have been spouting their BS line of “clear cutting the bottom” and “nets as big as a 747” Blah, blah, blah… Well now The Nature Conservancy wants a few trawlers back in the fishery, that they helped to destroy, so they can crow about how they have “saved” the west coast fishery. Now trawling is OK with them.

    Even Farm Land needs to be tilled in order get the best growing results.
    Rocky when do you get the best Flat fishing after the Closure? Immediately after or after things have been stirred up a bit?

      MY BEST FLAT FISHING GROUNDS , WAS IN THE GULF OF MAINE ,WHICH NOAA CLOSED DOWN THAT AREA, MANY YEARS AGO . STILL WAITING FOR NOAA SHORT CLOSURE TO REOPEN I GUESS , I WILL BE WAITING AND WAITING ! LOG BOOKS REALLY WORK, FISHERMEN BEWARE !!!

        I know of one Capt.’s best productive BOTTOM was right at the “GROANER”. Others did well in an Area that was great “DEER” hunting at LOW TIDE…
