Mayor: No Answers on Vineyard Wind Approval is ‘Disconcerting’

“It’s a big deal because it’s a $2.2 Billion project. That is, to date, the largest private sector project in the state’s history. Bigger than the casinos in the state, bigger than Gillette Stadium, or you can name any of the skyscrapers in Boston, that is a big, big project and it’s being deployed from here,” New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell said Thursday during his weekly appearance on the Barry Richard Show. “It’s not even clear to me that Vineyard Wind understands what the hang-up is. We’ve said, ‘look, if the hang-up has something to do with commercial fishing, we in New Bedford would be happy to play a mediated role.’  >click to read< 12:28

There are conflicts between these industries, and I question the mayors statement about the fishing industry playing a mediating roll. Which fishing industry, Mayor? Your small group, or the industry as a whole, because if that’s the case, the industry as a whole should be demanding answers from you about this.

Mr. Mayor, What will be the long term cost to your city if going forward with this plan has the detrimental effect on our oceans ecosystem that many believe it will? Here in Rhode island with just 5 turbines we have seen very concerning signs on our fishing harvest’s. Running hap hazardly into a project of this magnitude is not only troubling but downright irresponsible.
Fishermen face enormous regulatory obstacles. Now you want them to face physical obstacles on top of that? Navigating through a forest of these behemoth’s is going to be a nightmare and I believe it will be just a matter of time before we loose vessels and men to this fools errand.

Holy Crapola! Disconcerting indeed! This administration is freekin’ delirious-stoned on that $ 2.2 billion! And hey, “Bigger than Gillette Stadium”? Well then, that settles it! Go right ahead then, and destroy whatever you like, Jon. We don’t need no stinkin’ largest, most lucrative fishing port in the nation, anyway! “If the hang-up has something to do with commercial fishing [whatever that is…]”. Really? This is the Mayor of New Bedford referring to Commercial Fishing as a “hang-up” for the Wind Farm Machine??? Scott Lang, where in the world are you?
