While it’s a fact that’s hardly ever acknowledged, the assumption in fisheries management is that if the population of a stock of fish isn’t at some arbitrary level, it’s because of too much fishing. Hence the term “overfished.” Hence the mandated knee jerk reaction of the fisheries managers to not enough fish; cut back on fishing. What of other factors? They don’t count. It’s all about fishing, because fishing is all that the managers can control; it’s their Maslow’s Hammer. When it comes to the oceans it seems as if it’s about all that the industry connected mega-foundations that support the anti-fishing ENGOs with hundreds of millions of dollars a year in “donations” are interested in controlling. There is no agency named NOAA Fisheries. It is non existent. This is a slack, slag moniker used to denigrate the official name of the agency, the National Marine Fisheries Service. Prove me wrong! Find the address for NOAA Fisheries. I wonder what would be said if a boat owner decided to just, well, change the name of his boat! When Sam says he’s the Head of “NOAA Fisheries”, I must say, it’s not true!

Our official name is still the National Marine Fisheries Service. NOAA Fisheries Service or NOAA Fisheries has for many many years been our common use name since we are the fisheries part of NOAA.

Are there any entries into the National Register under noaa fisheries? NOVAs under noaa fisheries?
You people have plastered this noaa fisheries thing everywhere, and it’s not even an official name connected to an official website that does not include NMFS and NOAA.

Change of agency name in mid-stream is about par for NOAA. Not Loligo Squid, now the translated version: Longfin. Not Black Back Flounder, but Winter Flounder. Not Fluke, but Summer Flounder etc. etc. Oh and they’re not charts anymore they’re maps.
BOEM not too long ago was BOEMRE, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Research and Enforcement, but apparently to avoid any “appearances” of “internal” conflict of interest between “Energy Management” and “Enforcement” (they didn’t seem able to juggle those two aspects very well in the years leading up top the Deepwater Horizon tragedy); it was divided up into BOEM or Bureau of Ocean Energy Research and BSEE or Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.
They all were not too long ago originally known as The Minerals Management Service which was transformed into BOEMRE to avoid any “appearances of conflict of interest” (such as getting busted partying with oil “executives” and the reported inattention to details such as bogus safety reports relating to the Deepwater Horizon atrocity) —quite an acronym Shell game that they play here. http://peoplesworld.org/top-offshore-drilling-regulator-forced-out/

Did NOAA, similar to Department of Interior’s Minerals Management Serice’s “transformation”, change the name from NMFS to NOAA Fisheries in response to the unearthed corruption in the NOAA Office of Law Enforcement, i.e., Dale Joenes file shredding, junkets to the Phillipines on fishermen’s exorbitant fines money?
So, yes there is some wonderment isn’t there? And “what is the point”? That’s what we were wondering. And one more thing to wonder about: where is the service to the Fisheries from the Fisheries Service. We were also wondering about that.
Just in case you were wondering, Someone from NOAA, this is actually an issue on the West Coast.
