‘Deadliest Catch’ Cleans Up with Wins at 2014 Creative Emmy Awards

Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch won big at the 2014 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, August 16, taking home three awards including a win for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program.  Deadliest Catch, which recently wrapped its landmark 10th season on Discovery Channel, also won for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming and Outstanding Picture Editing for Reality Programming. Coast Guard medevacs another injured fisherman. This one near Dutch Harbor

Watchstanders at the 17th District command center in Juneau received a request for assistance from a crewmember aboard the Patricia Lee who reported a 27-year-old fisherman suffered an injury to his foot and needed to be medevaced. Read more here 20:16

Newport: Two fishing vessels collide near the mouth of the jaws Monday evening – no injuries – photos

pegasus-starboard-damage-8-19-14Just before midnight last evening (Monday), two fishing vessels, one leaving Newport, the other returning, came upon each other in the fog near the mouth of the Newport jaws.  They were on a collision course.  Both bridges tried evasive action but there was a collision anyway. Government Waste – Regulatory Discards

This is what the government and their stupid regulations make us discard. Thrown away dead feeding the crabs. Fishermen would be more than happy to bring them home and give them away to feed the hungry. But nooo can’t do that. With what stupid regulations make us discard we could end hunger in this nation. On August 13, deck boss Richard Clayton Palek was arrested and charged with a federal misdemeanor violation of a law that prohibits anyone from forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, intimidating, sexually harassing, bribing, or interfering with a fishery observer. Up to $6.2m in payroll rebates for expansion of Mulgrave fish oil plant

A Guysborough County plant that produces fish-oil supplements is getting a $30-million expansion, with $6.2 million in help from the province. DSM Nutritional Products announced plans Monday to upgrade its Mulgrave facility. Read more here 08:51

Vietnamese fishermen eat snake for strength and enthusiasm at work!

It appears that Vietnamese fishermen eat a type of snake every time they go to sea in order to ensure strength and enthusiasm at work! Local fisherman Khairuddin Mustapha, who has befriended many Vietnamese fishermen and,,, meanwhile, Malaysia could rely on 100% fish imports by 2019.
