ODFW to host public meetings on commercial nearshore fishery

Oak Island, NC – Dozens of dead sharks found washed ashore
The NC Division of Marine Fisheries is investigating after dozens of dead sharks were found washed ashore on a popular beach strand in Brunswick County on Sunday morning. Michael Boswell, a local resident, was walking on the beach when he spotted “approximately 50 dead sharks” on the sand near Southeast 64th Street in Oak Island. Read the rest here 17:30
Cortez preservation group FISH continues to preserve fishing village’s heritage
Plum Taylor’s 80th birthday celebration was the first event held in the newly remodeled kitchen and dining area of the Fishermen’s Hall community complex. FISH paid about $240,000 for the church, parsonage, Sunday school building and a large vacant lot about five years ago and has been renovating and restoring the property, as funds allow, into a community center for that hugs Sarasota Bay. New England: Fisheries research collaborative calls for new regional projects
The University of New Hampshire-led Northeast Consortium has been selected to lead a new collaborative research initiative on the groundfish stocks and groundfish fishery in the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank. Working Waterfront bridges the generations in New Bedford
Every family fishing tradition has to start somewhere. Capt. Lou Lagace of the sea clamming vessel “Mariette” said his began with a summer job in 1978. “I’m first generation,” Lagace said Saturday, standing on the docks at the 11th annual Working Waterfront Festival. Although he was the first in his family to enter the industry, Lagace started the tradition when he brought in his 29-year-old son. Read the rest here 08:54
