Seafood fraud cases plummet as NOAA cuts investigators
In a sprawling warehouse five miles inland from the port of Newark, N.J., Scott Doyle was dwarfed by the metal shipping container that had just arrived from Indonesia and was headed to Maryland. It held 14 tons of pasteurized crabmeat, packed into 28,008 one-pound cans. City of Fernandina Beach opposes seismic testing for oil in ocean
Fernandina Beach has joined more than 25 coastal towns that are saying “no” to seismic testing in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. City commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to that effect Tuesday.,,the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or BOEM, received approval this year for seismic testing in the Atlantic Ocean, which had been declared off-limits for oil exploration since 1982. John Pappalardo has submitted paperwork to replace Nature Conservancy’s Tom Dempsey on NEFMC
Pappalardo already has served on the council for three terms, serving five years as chairman, during which the New England fishery experienced big changes in management. Under a plan crafted by the council, fishermen were allotted a share of the overall quota of each groundfish stock based on their fishing histories.
