World’s oldest steam trawler for UK return

After 50 years of lying in neglect, the Viola, which still has her engines intact, is preparing to make her final voyage from Grytviken harbour, South Georgia, after experts described analysis of her hull structure as “very promising”. Starting life in 1906 for the Hellyer North Sea trawling fleet, the Viola was requisitioned by the Admiralty following the outbreak of the 1914-18 war, 100 years ago. Read the rest here 21:12

Crabmeat imports flood into Baltimore’s port – Video

Two million pounds of crab product from China traveled up the Chesapeake Bay into the port of Baltimore during the first 10 months of 2014. Another million pounds came from Indonesia. In total, more than 4 million pounds of crab from all over the world moved into the port, according to an analysis of import records compiled by Zepol, a Minneapolis-based company that specializes in trade data. ALL EYES ON COTTEN -Governor chose seasoned veteran for acting commissioner

Paul Fraser back in the Slammer for refusing to sign release conditions

paul fraser 3Paul Garrett Fraser of Eighth Street is charged with mischief by interfering with the lawful use of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans building on Westmount Road. On Friday, he represented himself at a bail hearing and the court was prepared to release him provided he sign the list of conditions. Fraser took objection to the clause ordering he keep the peace. Prawning regulations need change on BC Coast

The Pacific Prawn Fisherman’s Association, representing commercial harvesters, recently recommended to DFO that there should be a coast-wide closure of all prawn fishing from December 1 to March 31.
