Video: Coast Guard responds to 2 cases off of Nantucket

Coast Guard crews successfully medevaced a 47-year-old fisherman from the fishing vessel F/V Andrea A, and responded to a fishing vessel taking on water off the eastern shore of Nantucket, Massachusetts, Thursday. At 10:30, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England Command Center were notified by the fishing vessel, Donny C, that they were taking on water approximately 110 nautical miles southeast of Nantucket. The vessel’s two dewatering pumps onboard were not keeping up with the flooding and the crew were making preparations to abandon ship. A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew and HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircrew launched to assist and rescue the mariners. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba (WMEC 907) was operating nearby and diverted to assist, along with fishing vessels F/V Blue Wave, and F/V Temptress.  Video, >click to read< 13:11

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a VHF radio call at approximately 21:30 Sunday from the F/V Nite Nurse, reporting that the vessel was taking on water and sinking. The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and dispatched a Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, a HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew, and Coast Guard Cutter Kingfisher to the scene. >video, click to read< 18:17

Coast Guard medevacs sick fisherman 42 miles off Nantucket

A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod helicopter crew medevaced a sick 54-year-old man from the 87-foot fishing boat Generation Sunday night 42 miles off Nantucket. The captain of the Generation contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 5:20 p.m. and requested assistance for his sick crew member. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene and hoisted the patient to the helicopter. The aircrew flew the man to Massachusetts General Hospital for further care. The patient was reported to be in stable condition at the time of the transfer. -USCG-

New Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft now operating out of Air Station Cape Cod

The HC-144 Ocean Sentry, received by Air Station Cape Cod in August 2012, is a more efficient platform with the ability remain in the air for a greater amount of time.

The radar and imagery sensors represent the latest in technologies and the added cargo ramp increases the amount of gear and supplies that can be air-dropped to a vessel or persons in distress. Read more
