Commercial Dungeness crab season, Oregon’s most valuable fishery, opened Wednesday. But crab boats remain tied up on docks in Coos Bay. “We’re kind of sitting here with our hands tied behind our back. Curtis Green saw the 40-foot Darean Rose get stuck on a sand bar the day after Christmas 2019 as he worked the dock at Russell’s Marine Fuel & Supply, his family’s business in Charleston. Then the boat capsized. Green yelled for someone to do something. Tarheel Aluminum in Charleston launches first fishing boat since the ’90s

Tarheel Aluminum launched a fishing boat from the Charleston shipyard Friday, the first launch since the 1990s. The 40×15-foot aluminum vessel called the Alice Faye weighed in at 30,000 pounds on the shipyard’s new lift. It’s the first fishing vessel the family-run Tarheel Aluminum has made since the ’90s.
