NOAA/NMFS Seeks Comments on Proposed Rulemaking for American Lobster Fishery

NOAA Fisheries seeks comments on the American lobster control date, changes to lobster trap gear marking requirements, and allowing substitute vessels to fish lobster traps for federally permitted but inoperable vessels. In accordance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Addenda XXI and XXII to Amendment 3 of the Interstate Fisheries Management Plan for American Lobster, NOAA Fisheries may select January 27, 2014, or another date, as a control date for the lobster fishery, depending on public comment and input from the Commission. click here to read the press release 12:53

NMFS Announces Control Date of December 14, 2015 for Mid Atlantic Blueline Tilefish Catch Share Fishery

NMFS, announces December 14, 2015 as the control date for commercial and for-hire fishermen regarding future entry ( catch shares)  into a blueline tilefish fishery managed by the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council.The blueline tilefish fishery south of the Virginia/North Carolina border is managed by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council as part of the Snapper-Grouper Fishery Management Plan. The blueline tilefish fishery in the Mid-Atlantic has been unregulated and historically has had very low landings.  In order to prepare management measures for blueline tilefish in the Mid-Atlantic, the Council has asked us to set a “control date” for the commercial and for-hire recreational blueline tilefish fisheries. National Marine Fisheries Service Establishes Control Date for Illex Squid Fishery at the request of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council –

Today, at the request of the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, we published a notice establishing August 2, 2013 as the new control date for the Illex squid fishery. By establishing this control date, we are notifying the public that the Council may consider an action to limit the number of participants in the fishery. Read the NMFS Bulletin
