Sanford Goes for Green with Maaskant Order
New Zealand seafood company Sanford Limited has placed an order with Damen Shipbuilding Maaskant for the design and build of a new scampi vessel for operation in the Southern Ocean. This new vessel is expected to contribute to Sanford’s target of reducing the carbon footprint from its direct operations by 25% between 2020 and 2030. The construction of the diesel-electric vessel will take place at the Damen Maaskant yard in the Netherlands, with a delivery date in 2025. Images, >click to read< 20:29
Focus on Alternative Fuels
The Padmos Shipyard is taking part in this year’s Holland Fisheries Event, with the spotlight on future-oriented fishing projects. That means less energy consumption, lower CO2 emissions and alternative fuels. The yard is based at Stellendam in the south of Holland and specialises in newbuilds, repair and maintenance of fishing vessels. The company is currently designing conversions of existing fishing vessels to diesel-electric propulsion methods or alternative fuels, according to director Walter van Harberden. Rethinking the Ocean Factory Trawler
An entirely new design for the ocean factory trawler segment has been released by KNUD E. HANSENs Faroe Islands design team. From stem to stern this design redefines the classic trawler layout which has remained more or less unchanged for decades. The designers state: “The aim of this design is to set new standards for the next generation of ocean factory trawlers, seeking innovation in all solutions and adaption of new technologies to the long proven concept of stern trawlers”. >click to read<21:21
