Heartbroken fisherman banned from pier after 63 years at the harbour

A Fisherman has been forced to put his beloved boat on the market after harbour chiefs told him he was barred. Heartbroken John Hutchinson, 73, has been banned from the pier at Lower Largo, Fife – where he has been fishing since the age of 10. John is the third generation of his family to fish from the harbour following in the footsteps of his father, and grandfather. But this week his application to moor the 6.5m vessel was knocked back. “I want an apology and an explanation. A special exhibition opened in memory of one of the founders of the Scottish Fisheries Museum

David Tod BEM was a former chairman and vice-president at the heart of the museum. He died in February. A keen model boatmaker, he is now being remembered with a special exhibition of model boats. It opened to the public at the weekend. Bill Horsburgh, Model Boat Club chairman, said: “David’s models are works of art and he brought his skills as an engineer and designer to bear in creating boats that were not only beautiful to look at but are fully working models. A dramatic early morning rescue operation mounted as Fife fishing boat hits the rocks

Volunteer RNLI crews from Anstruther were able to rescue two men from the Carisma before she was wrecked after hitting the rocky shore near Pittemweem shortly after 6:15am. The loss of the vessel is a massive blow to her owner and skipper Kirk Doig, who launched Carisma Seafoods in August when the Covid-10 pandemic ended most demand from fish markets as the country felt the full impact of lockdown on the hospitality industry. >click to read< 15:55
