3 victims identified after fishing boat sinks near Quebec’s Lower North Shore

Quebec provincial police have identified the three people who died after a fishing vessel capsized and sank in the Gulf of St. Lawrence near Quebec’s Lower North Shore. Dean Lavallée, 53, Yves Jones, 65, and Damon Etheridge, 36, were all from Blanc-Sablon, Que.  The three men were among six people aboard the 18-metre-long Silver Condor sailing near La Tabatière, Que., early Monday morning. Lavallée owned and operated the Silver Condor.  The crew left Friday to look for redfish and were on their way back when the ship sank, said Blanc-Sablon Mayor Andrew Etheridge, who is a cousin of Damon Etheridge. “He’s just the kind of guy who puts other people before him,” Etheridge said of his cousin. >>click to read<< 15:47

Fishing boat sinks after collision with cargo ship off Tynemouth coast

At 3.40pm on Sunday, the skipper of a 9.9m North Shields -based trawler made a distress call after a collision with a 1,700-tonne 81m cargo ship that had recently sailed from Blyth. The fishing vessel was badly damaged and started taking on water, leading to flooding in the engine room. UK Coastguard’s Humber Operations Centre called Tynemouth RNLI and it’s all-weather lifeboat went to the aid of the fishing boat and her two crew. A number of other nearby vessels also responded to the distress call, notably the offshore support vessel Ocean Marlin which launched a boat in case the fishermen needed immediate evacuation. >click to read< 17:56

2 confirmed dead, one rescued after fishing boat sinks off Vancouver Island

Two men are dead and another man has been rescued after their fishing boat sank off Vancouver Island Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon, the B.C. Coroners Service confirmed it was investigating at least one death in the incident. The coroner confirmed a second body had been recovered late Tuesday evening. “Both bodies were flown to Victoria where a coroner took jurisdiction of investigations of two deaths, both involving Canadians,” said B.C. Fishing boat sinks 24 miles off Vineyard

The fishing boat F/V Leonardo out of New Bedford sank Sunday afternoon 24 miles southwest of the Vineyard. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued one mariner from the vessel. A search and rescue operation is underway for three others. Sector Southeast New England received an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) signal at 3:18 pm, according to Petty Officer Ryan Noel.,, None of the mariners were wearing survival suits.
