Selling ‘Gloucester Fresh’ to middle America

But if Barry Furuseth has his way, he’ll connect the two geographical dots with an unceasing supply of fresh seafood from America’s oldest seaport. Furuseth, the owner of Blu Fresh Fish Marketplace in Bentonville, has become one of the staunchest acolytes of fresh Gloucester seafood and the city’s rich fishing heritage, incorporating both onto his restaurant menu and into the cases of his seafood market. “I want to showcase the American fishermen and I want showcase ‘Gloucester Fresh’,” Furuseth said Friday afternoon, invoking the name of the city’s overarching seafood marketing brand. “I want to show people that this is where their seafood is coming from, from these cold, clear, fresh waters. Gloucester Fresh campaign lands a big one!

56e5e67eb6a91.imageThe city’s Gloucester Fresh seafood marketing efforts have landed the city a major commercial partner. The Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub group, with 105 restaurants across New England and into upstate New York, will be featuring Gloucester-landed haddock on its spring menus. The agreement for the family restaurant chain to feature Gloucester seafood was announced Monday by Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and Ninety Nine President Charlie Noyes at a Gloucester House luncheon for more than 75 seafood buyers and processors who were visiting the city to tour Gloucester’s fishing infrastructure. Model pitchmen: Fishermen promote “Gloucester Fresh” branding campaign

But in this, the springish winter of 2015-16, a late-afternoon February photo shoot along the docks at St. Peter’s Square and around the bend of Harbor Cove near Felicia’s Oil wasn’t all that much of a challenge. So, with the sun shining Wednesday afternoon and the temperatures hovering near 50 degrees, Gloucester Economic Development Director Sal Di Stefano accompanied his merry band of fishermen to their boats tied up along the waterfront so they could make like Mrs. Brady for the camera. “Come on Mark, work it,” Di Stefano called to Mark Ring as the Gloucester lobsterman posed on his boat, the Stanley Thomas, for Sperling Interactive photographer Coco Boardman, who is part of the effort to tell the stories of local fishermen. “Where’s that intensity?” Read the story here 08:16
