On Mothers Day – A mother’s cry for help while she tries to save her son…

A message from a very concerned mother… Alex Ashton is my 22 year old son who was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma in October 2018. He took a leave of absence from work to receive treatment over the following 6 months. Since the chemo ended he went back to work but recently we found out through a PET scan that the cancer is still there and Alex is now receiving treatment farther from home at OHSU in Portland. Alex is unable to work. We need to make numerous trips to OHSU and to relocate to Portland for at least a month so Alex can receive a Stem Cell Transplant. We also need to maintain our home in Newport so we have a place to come to when Alex’s treatment is complete. >click to read, and donate if you can<14:01

Please donate to New Jersey Fisherman James Lacey’s Memorial Fund

Today we mourn the loss of our brother, son, cousin, uncle, and friend James Lacey. Jim died when the fishing boat he worked on capsized in the waters off the Oregon coast. (Full story.) We always knew Jim had one of the hardest jobs in the world and he wouldn’t have it any other way.,,, We’re raising money to help return his remains to the east coast so that he can be laid to rest. Any additional funds raised will go to support charitable causes that support the families of fisherman lost at sea. Thank you for your generosity, your thoughts, and your prayers. May he rest in peace. >click to read, and please, donate if you can.< Thank you.10:18

FISH-NL Launches fundraiser to help fund the conclusion of the breakaway union’s drive for certification

The Federation of Independent Sea Harvesters of Newfoundland and Labrador (FISH-NL) has launched a second Go Fund Me Campaign to raise $75,000 to help fund the conclusion of the breakaway union’s drive for certification. “We’re almost there,” says Ryan Cleary, President of FISH-NL. “It’s been16 long, hard months since FISH-NL submitted our application for certification and the Labour Relations Board is closer than ever to calling a vote for inshore harvesters to decide their union fate. We need this help to push us over the top.” It’s not just inshore harvesters who are urged to contribute to the cause, but people everywhere who are concerned with labour rights. >click to read< >click for fundraiser page<13:19
