Over 13,000 pounds of Lobster hauled into Provo on Season Opening

The Turks and Caicos luxury export is back in season as of Monday August 1st. Lobster season is officially open and TCI fisherman took advantage from the get go as a massive 13,000 pounds were caught on the very first day, and that was just the Providenciales tally. Victor Lewis was the big winner of the day with 2,103 pounds, followed by Leslie Amboise with1,877 pounds. Lobster season opens in southwestern N.S. on Dec. 1 after two-day delay

Even on the day the postponed lobster fishery opened in southwestern Nova Scotia, it still had one more delay to contend with. Instead of leaving their ports at the traditional 6 a.m. start time on Wednesday, Dec. 1, the boats and crews in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 34 left at 8 a.m. The two-hour delay, coming on the heels of a two-day postponement of the season, was decided on during a 4 a.m. industry conference call on Wednesday morning as crews waited for confirmation of whether the season would see a Dec. 1 opening. >click to read< 08:35

Lobster season opens on Northumberland Strait – Processors scramble to find plant workers

The lobster fishery opening on the Northumberland Strait Tuesday as lobster processors deal with new federal regulations which limit how many temporary foreign workers can be hired. The new regulations could create problems processing this season’s catch. “Let’s face it — it’s tough work, not everybody’s cut out for it,” said Nat Richard. “And certainly a lot of our older workers are retiring and younger people today aren’t looking to work in fish plants.” Read the rest here 09:34

Good hauls, lower prices expected as lobster season opens

ARISAIG — “I’ve got 11:58,” Gerard MacDonald called from the lobster boat’s bow. “I’ve got :58, too,” yelled another captain on the boat idling behind MacDonald’s vessel. “Imagine that,” declared MacDonald. “Our watches are synchronized.” Two minutes later, at the digital stroke of noon, they and the rest of the local lobster fishing fleet, held captive by ice for 11 days, charged past the Arisaig wharf breakwaters.
