Mar-Lees drops RICO case against co-founder, others

US scallop supplier Mar-Lees Seafood has dropped the federal racketeering case against its former CEO and co-founder, John Lees. In a document filed in the docket on the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) lawsuit, filed on Oct. 26, last year, Mar-Lees stated the action is “voluntarily dismissed”. Lees used Shahin as ‘pawn against Mar-Lees’

wogangsterumdieeckeknallen-hauptfotoUS scallop supplier Mar-Lees Seafood claims its current president and CEO was used as a pawn against the company by John Lees, co-founder and twice former top executive, who is now being accused of racketeering. In a Dec. 4 response to Lees’ Nov. 20 call for the federal lawsuit brought under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) on Oct. 26 to be dismissed, or, at the very least, stayed, Mar-Lees legal council states this should be denied. Mar-Lees council also states the allegations in the RICO case are different to the other state case, which has been partially stayed for arbitration. more@undercurrent 15:51

Beleaguered Mar-Lees signs lease on New York plant to produce meals on plates – Deal makers dropping like fly’s!

Michael Strange, who joined Mar-Lees as vice president of product development, has a photo on his Linkedin page of “plated entrees with ‘Skin Pak’ technology”, which other sources confirmed is the product. Mar-Lees also states on its website it now offers “hand-crafted meal plates”. Strange joined Mar-Lees in May, brought on board by former vice president of sales, Steve McDonnell. “Steve Mac [McDonnell] brought them [Mar-Lees] that business,” one source told Undercurrent. McDonnell, who could not be reached for comment, was then let go by Mar-Lees for reasons the company has not clarified. Rick Marino, former VP of business development, was leading the sales drive on the product, sources told Undercurrent.Marino has also been let go, for reasons not clarified by Mar-Lees. more@undercurrent 21:01

Mar-Lees sued over acquisition of clam processor “Captain Carl’s” – Betting the house on it

Mar-Lees Seafood, the US scallop and seafood supplier at the center of a range of legal disputes, is being sued over the acquisition of a Rhode Island-based clam processor, Carl’s Gourmet Foods, legal documents show. John Rinn, who claims to be a 35% equity holder in the clam processor, also known as “Captain Carl’s”, filed a lawsuit against Mar-Lees and Carl Masiello over the acquisition, which took place around October 2012. more@undercurrent  10:30
