The Coast Guard medevaced a crew member Saturday from a fishing vessel 9 miles off San José Island, Texas. Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi command center watchstanders received a medevac request via VHF-FM channel 16 at 11:41 a.m. from the fishing vessel Thai Express stating a crew member had fallen and sustained a head injury and a broken arm. Coast Guard medevacs crewman off commercial fishing vessel 130 miles from Cold Bay, Alaska

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew, forward-deployed to Cold Bay, medevaced a mariner Thursday from the fishing vessel Alaska Victory, approximately 130 nautical miles north of Cold Bay. The aircrew safely transported the adult male to Cold Bay, where they conducted a wing-to-wing transfer with a LifeMed crew, who then transported him to further care. >click to read< 17:22

The Coast Guard medevaced a 60-year-old man from a fishing vessel 46 miles offshore Cameron, Louisiana, Sunday morning. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center watchstanders received a medevac request by radio from the fishing vessel F/V Jennifer and David stating a crewmember had been severely injured. Coast Guard Aircrew Medevacs Crewman from Fishing Vessel West of Port Orford, Ore.

October 13, 2016 Pacific

A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a crewman who reportedly fractured his arm on a 285-foot fishing vessel 25-miles west of Port Orford, Thursday morning. An MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector North Bend hoisted the 74-year-old male from the fishing vessel American Triumph and transferred him to local medical services waiting in Coos Bay. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector North Bend were notified at 3 a.m. and directed the launch of the Dolphin crew. The aircrew arrived on scene at 4:41 a.m. and transferred the patient to EMS at 5:28 a.m The weather at the time of the rescue was reported with low visibility, heavy rain, 50 knot gusting winds and 15-20 foot sea swells. The New England groundfish debacle (Part III): who or what is at fault? Nils E. Stolpe/FishNet

It took me a while to decide how to most accurately describe the situation that has been visited upon the New England fishing communities that are and since colonial times have been dependent on the groundfish fisheries.

While it’s a fact that’s hardly ever acknowledged, the assumption in fisheries management is that if the population of a stock of fish isn’t at some arbitrary level, it’s because of too much fishing. Hence the term “overfished.” Hence the mandated knee jerk reaction of the fisheries managers to not enough fish; cut back on fishing. What of other factors? They don’t count. It’s all about fishing, because fishing is all that the managers can control; it’s their Maslow’s Hammer. When it comes to the oceans it seems as if it’s about all that the industry connected mega-foundations that support the anti-fishing ENGOs with hundreds of millions of dollars a year in “donations” are interested in controlling.
