Fishermen sail new boat into harbour four months after devastating sinking

Less than four months after their livelihood sunk to the bottom of the sea, skipper Brett Jose and crew member Callum Hardwick sailed into Cadgwith on a new fishing boat. Amid the celebrations, present in the minds of all watching was the day of November 12 last year, when the Lizard Lifeboat made one of their most difficult rescues in recent memory, saving two of their own crew after their fishing boat sunk. With no time to issue a mayday call, an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) signal thankfully alerted Falmouth Coastguard, who were then able to notify the Lizard Lifeboat. Now Brett and Callum have sailed their new boat, Sante Fe, into Cadgwith on St Piran’s Day no less, to cheers and applause from those watching in the close-knit community. >click to read< 15:15

Marshfield lobsterman proud to add new boat to ‘hundreds of years of commercial fishing’

What’s 45 feet long, 17 feet wide and required a State Police detail to get to its Brant Rock home? The answer is Andy Glynn’s new lobster boat. Glynn, a Marshfield native, is a commercial fisherman and lobsterman out of Green Harbor. His new boat, an H&H Osmond Beal design, made the 315-mile trip from Steuben, Maine, earlier this month. The boat is named Bre-Jay after Glynn’s daughters Breanna and Jayanne. It’s going to be a commercial lobstering boat, but it needs some work.  It’s a rough shell with the engine, shaft and rudder in place. The tanks, the decking, the windows, all the plumbing and all the electrics have to be done. It’s going to take six months to a year to finish. >click to read< 07:35

Tuna Longliner Mira Š: the newest addition to Klokan Fishing, based at Port Stephens in New South Wales

When blessing a new boat, it’s considered bad luck if the bottle of champagne doesn’t break. As luck would have it, when 16-year-old Mira Skoljarev swung the bottle hard at the Mira Š tuna longliner named after her, the bottle didn’t do what was expected of it. Building the boat was a little over a two-year journey, stretching from April 2019 to May 2021. ‘It was blood, sweat, and tears – literally. Mira Š was designed by Oceantech in Adelaide and built by CTB Industries in Kooragang, Newcastle. The internal fit-out was done over five months by an army of tradespeople, and John. Video, photos, At the boat’s helm is skipper Dieter Wagener, who moved with his wife to Australia from South Africa in January 2021. >click to read< 20:46
