Hearts are heavy once again in fishing communities in southwestern Nova Scotia – and throughout the province – as people grieve another tragedy to befall the lobster and fishing industry. A Monday, Dec. 26, fishing trip resulted in the loss of a young fisherman who went overboard that morning off Cape Sable Island. Family members put up posts about their missing loved one as did community members, expressing their heartache and sadness. “Yesterday, Dec. 26th, 2022, the lobster industry lost one of their own. Search suspended for fisherman who went overboard off Cape Sable Island

The search for a fisherman who went overboard Boxing Day morning off Cape Sable Island in Nova Scotia has been suspended. The search effort was called off at noon AT Tuesday, according to spokesperson Lt.-Cmdr. Len Hickey of the Halifax’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre. It will be handed off to the RCMP as a missing persons case, said Lt.-Cmdr. Len Hickey, spokesperson for Halifax’s Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre. The man went overboard from a 12-metre fishing vessel — the Little Weasel Too — while fishing for lobster in the Cape Sable Island area. A search is underway in the waters off Nova Scotia for a missing fisherman who went overboard on Boxing Day morning. F/V Susan Rose: Coast Guard suspends search for missing fisherman

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a missing fisherman who went overboard on Friday morning. According to a post on social media, the USCG said they, along with local agencies “have suspended the search for the fisherman from the F/V Susan Rose pending further developments.” Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, crew members of the commercial fishing vessel, F/V Susan Rose noticed one person wasn’t on board, according to Petty Officer Ryan Noel. >click to read< 16:32

US Coast Guard continues search for overboard fisherman off the coast of Massachusetts

The search for a fisherman who went overboard off the coast of Massachusetts continues. The United States Coast Guard Northeast shared an update on Twitter around 9:20 p.m. Friday stating that crews would continue the search overnight for the fisherman who went overboard Friday morning from the 77-foot Susan Rose vessel, which is out of Point Judith in Rhode Island. The person is believed to be in the area of Noman’s Island, which is about three miles south of Martha’s Vineyard and New Bedford, officials said. >click to read< 10:04

Updated: Body of overboard fisherman found on Hatteras Island

U.S. Coast Guard officials say crews were launched around 11 a.m. The 50-year-old fell overboard from the 70-foot fishing vessel Lady Kimberly of Beaufort, N.C. about noon as he was hauling in shrimp nets, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Corinne Zilnicki. Two hours later, the National Park Service informed the Coast Guard that the man’s body had been recovered on Hatteras Island by local law enforcement. Body of overboard fisherman recovered

coast guardThe body of a fisherman who was dragged overboard by fishing gear this morning has been recovered, and transported to U.S. Coast Guard Station Brant Point, Chief Warrant Officer John Roberts said this afternoon. The man, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was reported overboard about 9:15 this morning off the 42-foot fishing vessel No Regrets out of Oak Bluffs, Mass. According to a press release from the 1st Coast Guard District in Boston, the man became entangled in nets on the conch boat and was swept over the side about a quarter-mile off Great Point. Good Samaritan, Coast Guard rescue overboard fisherman from F/V Andy & Johnny Jr near Grand Isle

uscg-logoGRAND ISLE, La. — A good Samaritan and a Coast Guard boatcrew rescued a fisherman from the water 19 miles offshore Grand Isle, Friday. Watchstanders at the 8th Coast Guard District command center received a 406 emergency position indicating radio beacon for the shrimping vessel .  The Cajun Fisher was first of several good Samaritans to arrive on scene and reported that a crewmember from the fishing vessel Andy & Johnny Jr. had fallen overboard without a lifejacket. Read more here 13:45
