State of the art fishing vessel navigation simulator launched in Greencastle
The official launch of new high tech simulator suites took place at BIM’s National Fisheries College in Greencastle on Saturday. The simulator will enable skipper students to pilot and berth a vessel and navigate it through adverse weather conditions. The simulator and radio suites – recently installed both at the college in Donegal and its sister college in Castletownbere – are designed to imitate real-life navigational conditions for helm, ship control training and practice, and for vessel routine and distress alert training. >click to read< 10:21
New F/V Ocean Challenge a massive boost to Skerries
The arrival of a brand new state of the art whitefish trawler at the outlying community of Out Skerries has been described as a major boost to the small community by skipper Leslie Hughson. Built at Mooney Boats yard in Killybegs the Ocean Challenge arrived in Lerwick at the weekend before heading to her home port of Skerries for the naming ceremony on Sunday. Back in Lerwick on Monday to take on gear ahead of fishing trials later this week, Hughson said sailing the new vessel home to Skerries had been a “proud moment”. >click to read< 09:31
Blue North Fisheries debuts state-of-the-art commercial fishing vessel
The F/V Blue North is a 191 foot freezer longliner owned by Seattle based Blue North Fisheries. The vessel was designed in Norway and built by Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes. “I’m kind of pinching myself – we are finally here – we’ve got it,” said Patrick Burns who is the co-founder of Blue North. “It’s a state of the art vessel.” The $36 million fishing boat has been under construction for several years. It was delivered last week and has been receiving some final touches at Seattle’s Pier 91 as it prepares to make fishing history in Alaska’s Bering Sea. “This vessel is a game changer – it’s the greenest, most sustainable and highest tech commercial fishing vessel that’s ever been built in the United State and possibly the world,” said Kenny Down, President and CEO of Blue North Fisheries.
