The family of Patrick Hoagland, the man who went overboard from the fishing vessel Gaston’s Legacy south of Nantucket last Saturday and remains missing, is still holding out hope he will be found. “I am praying his survival instinct kicks in and brings him back safely,” said his brother Howard Hoagland. “Miracles do happen. But we all know the way of the sea.” Patrick Hoagland is a resident of Bath, North Carolina. Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a ‘hugely respected and well liked’ Scots fisherman after his death in a tragic accident at sea. John Wilson died after going overboard while out hunting white fish and prawns off the east coast on Saturday, August 27. Aberdeen Coastguard were alterted and a huge search until the 64-year-old was found by a fellow fisherman. He was taken by helicopter to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he tragically died. Fishing boat skipper has been hailed a hero after he died trying to save a young crew member
Lachlan Robertson, known as Lachie, did not think twice about leaping into the water when a member of his crew fell overboard in rough seas in the Sound of Rum last week. Another crewman managed to pull the younger man from the icy water, but by the time they reached 61-year-old Mr Robertson, he was in a critical condition. It is understood one man fell as he and Mr Robertson tried to pull the nets back aboard in rough seas. “Somehow the crewman fell overboard and Lachie immediately jumped into the water after him, fearing he would drown. “The remaining young crewman, from nearby Skye, managed to pull his crewmate out of the sea but it took much longer to retrieve Lachie, by which time he was showing little sign of life.” >click to read< 07:40

Lachlan Robertson, 61, passed away in the tragic incident after being pulled from the water in the Sound of Rum, near the Isle of Skye. The fisherman, and another man working on the boat, was recovered from the water by a third crew member. But Lachlan, also known as Lachie, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mallaig fisherman killed in tragic fall overboard, remembered as a ‘gem’ of community
Lachlan Robertson, 61, died on Thursday after he and a fellow crew member fell into the sea in the Sound of Rum. Investigations are currently under way onboard his vessel, the Reul a’Chuain. In a social media post, his daughters told mourners they could lay flowers at Mallaig Harbour in his memory. Coastguards received a Mayday call from a fishing vessel at about 7pm on Thursday reporting that two out of three crewman onboard had entered the water. Gloucester Fisherman Nicolo Vitale, ‘He was the type of guy who would do anything for you’
On Monday, Vitale died after going overboard from the Miss Sandy as the vessel returned from fishing for haddock with a handful of Gloucester day boats. About a mile outside the breakwater, Capt. Vince Taormina turned from the wheel and the deck was empty. Vitale was gone. “We’re so grateful for everybody that helped,” said Joe Orlando, who owns and operates the Santo Pio. “We’re especially grateful to the Coast Guard for how quickly they came and for everything that they did.” Orlando was the captain that located Vitale’s body floating facedown and unresponsive in the water on Monday. “He was the type of guy who would do anything for you,” Orlando said. “He was a jewel.” By all accounts, Vitale lived life to the fullest and on his own terms. Family, friends remember fallen Stonington scallop fisherman Charles J. Lathrop
A memorial at the Stonington Town Dock built over the weekend paid tribute to Charles J. Lathrop, a Westerly man who died Thursday as a result of injuries suffered when he fell overboard last week while working on a commercial scallop boat. Surrounded with flowers, the memorial included a picture of the 50-year-old local fisherman who spent 35 years working on the water, docking in ports from Stonington to Hawaii. Police say fisherman’s death in Portland Harbor was accidental
Portland police said the fisherman who fell into Portland Harbor and died on Jan. 15 had lost his footing as the boat he was aboard docked at the Portland Fish Pier. Police Lt. Robert Martin declined to identify the man, but an obituary posted to the Brunswick-based Brackett funeral home identified him as David Downes, 51, a long-time commercial fisherman who lived in Brunswick. Justin Charles Zinno, 26, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on, October 14, his obituary said. Port Alberni fisherman found dead after getting caught in net remembered as ‘hardworking and honest’
Family members have identified a fisherman who died in the water off Port Alberni early Wednesday morning. The man who died was Son Ho and his daughter released this statement Wednesday afternoon. “My dad was an honest, hardworking and beautiful person who cared so much for those around him. He gave all he could to those around him and never asked for anything in return. He taught us how to be good people through his actions. Search for missing fisherman ‘a needle in a haystack’ say P.E.I. RCMP
RCMP and P.E.I. Ground Search and Rescue wrapped up its search for the day for Jordan Hicken late Thursday afternoon with no sign of the missing P.E.I. fisherman. Hicken went overboard from his fishing boat off Naufrage, on the Island’s North Shore, early Tuesday morning. RCMP Staff Sgt. Search for missing fisherman will be weather-dependent Thursday
RCMP say the extent of the search Thursday for missing fisherman Jordan Hicken will depend on the weather. Hicken, 22, from Montague, went overboard while fishing off Naufrage early Tuesday morning on his father’s boat the Plum Crazy, RCMP said. Poor conditions limited Wednesday’s search to the shorelines.
