Coast Guard rescues 4 fishermen near South Padre Island, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard crews rescued four fishermen from the water after their fishing vessel capsized at the South Padre Island jetties near South Padre Island, Texas, late Friday night.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received notification that the 63-foot fishing vessel Little Joseph was taking on water after striking the south jetty.

A Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft–Law Enforcement boat crew and a Station South Padre Island 45-foot Response Boat–Medium boat crew were launched.

After arriving on scene at 11:28 p.m., it was discovered all four mariners had entered the water. Using heaving lines, the boat crew of the SPC-LE rescued three of the fishermen and the crew of the RB-M rescued the last remaining fisherman from the water.

The crews of the SPC-LE and the RB-M transferred the four mariners to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Station South Padre Island. They were reported to be in stable condition.

Weather on scene was reported to be 5-foot seas with 23-mph winds.
