Trump Pledges to Deregulate Maine Fishing While Suggesting Resistance from State Leaders

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday to celebrate Maine fishermen and to discuss his work to remove Obama-era restrictions on fishing off Maine’s coast, while hinting at resistance from Maine’s political leaders. “I approved FULL Fishing Rights in the Ocean Waters, directly off the Coast of Maine, that were viciously taken away from them by the Obama/Biden Administration. They were not allowed to fish in those waters, and it would take them more than a day to get into areas, less fertile, where they were allowed to fish,” said President Trump. “In the meantime, Canada fished and did very well in these formerly unrestricted areas. more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 14:11

More words out of this joker’s mouth – does he ever stop talking? How about some real examples of what the Chump has actually done for the commercial fishing industry:

China was a top market for U.S. seafood—especially for species like lobster, Pacific geoduck clams, salmon, and crab. In 2018, China placed a 25% retaliatory tariff on U.S. seafood, directly reducing competitiveness compared to seafood from countries like Canada or Russia, which had no such barriers.

Maine’s lobster exports to China dropped by more than 80% following the imposition of tariffs. Meanwhile, Canadian lobstermen—who could export tariff-free due to a trade agreement with China—quickly filled the gap, expanding their market share.

Alaska is one of the largest exporters of wild-caught seafood to China, which processes a significant portion of U.S.-caught salmon and pollock. Chum salmon exports to China fell by over 50% in 2018–2019.

You can repeat this story with geoduck, dungies, black cod, just go down the list of species we fish for and its affected. Disruption in the reprocessing pipeline caused product backups and higher costs. Alaska seafood companies had to reroute processing to other countries, like Vietnam, increasing expenses and lowering profit margins.

At least the farmers are getting reimbursed for being a target of this state sponsored economic terrorism – when is the fleet gonna wake up?
