The New England groundfish debacle (Part III): who or what is at fault? Nils E. Stolpe/FishNet
NILS STOLPE: The New England groundfish debacle (Part IV): Is cutting back harvest really the answer?
While it’s a fact that’s hardly ever acknowledged, the assumption in fisheries management is that if the population of a stock of fish isn’t at some arbitrary level, it’s because of too much fishing. Hence the term “overfished.” Hence the mandated knee jerk reaction of the fisheries managers to not enough fish; cut back on fishing. What of other factors? They don’t count. It’s all about fishing, because fishing is all that the managers can control; it’s their Maslow’s Hammer. When it comes to the oceans it seems as if it’s about all that the industry connected mega-foundations that support the anti-fishing ENGOs with hundreds of millions of dollars a year in “donations” are interested in controlling. Well said, well said Striped Bass Hole….The most blessed and joyous Christmas and a healthy New Year to Fishery Nation and the Commander and Chief Bore Head. Hopefully 2015 will be a much better year for ALL of us, and our great country….and many thanks for those protecting and serving our nation.
EC Newellman
Merry Christmas fellas, and yes. Lets earmark 2015 to fix, or totally derail the machine of destruction.
I like the idea of stripping the ENGO’s of tax free, non profit status, and pinning down NOAA for fraud and abuse.
Hi Guys:
I’ve been offline for a few days doing an overhaul of my computer system, but as a Christmas present I got it up & running in time to wish everyone “a Healthy, Happy & Joyous Christmas, & Holiday Wishes!”
I hope everyone can take the time to enjoy what little we have left, & continue to work towards better times ahead.
Jim Kendall-NBSC
Merry Christmas, Jim!
