Plan to rebuild south coast cod stocks announced
A rebuilding plan for cod stocks off the south coast of Newfoundland was announced Wednesday in conjunction with a 15 per cent increase in the total allowable catch (TAC) for the upcoming fishing season. Read the rest here

The reaction towards Leonard Grey’s fishing technique around North Lake Prince Edward Island is certainly mixed. After accidentally discovering that local fish are mysteriously attracted to crack cocaine, he has become the area’s most successful fisherman and unapologetically continues to use the narcotic as bait. Groups sue feds over Pacific bigeye fishing rule
The complaint says the rule invents separate catch limits for American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. The lawsuit says each U.S. territory can then allocate half of its catch limit to Hawaii-based longline fishing vessels. Read the rest here 17:01
Tanker tangles with fishing vessel anchor line near Boon Island
The Coast Guard plans to investigate an incident in which a 577-foot tanker loaded with ultralight sulfur diesel was adrift off the coast of Portsmouth and got its propulsion system tangled in a 65-foot fishing boat’s anchor line southeast of Boon Island Ledge. Read the rest here 16:35

Locals prepare submittle to create a National Marine Sanctuary along the Central Coast
Tom Hafer, a fisherman and president of the Morro Bay Commercial Fishermen’s Organization, is wary of a new sanctuary in the area because he says it would further restrict access for commercial fishing in an area that doesn’t need new regulations. “We already have enough protection of the ocean on this part of the coastline,” Hafer said.
