Regulators Reject Lobster Restrictions in Gulf of Maine Cod Spawning Areas

Meanwhile, Gulf of Maine fishermen are increasingly noticing species that traditionally sought out warmer waters, including Maryland blue crab, red hake, turbot, squid, black sea bass, dogfish and others. Rubio, Murkowski Introduce Legislation To Protect Small Commercial Vessels From Onerous EPA Regulations
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL), the Ranking Member of the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and the Coast Guard, and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) today introduced a bill to temporarily exempt small commercial vessels from unnecessary regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for one year. Higher Pacific sardine limits urged over environmental objections

Phillip Boudreau’s murder trial resumes

Fishing boat in distress docked in Honolulu, making repairs, and heading back to sea.
A 68-foot commercial fishing boat that was in distress on Sunday is now docked in Honolulu. The captain of the Pacifica called at 9 a.m. Sunday to report the vessel was taking on 10 gallons of water per minute. Read the rest here 09:02

Atlantic Ocean temperatures continue above normal: report – record highs on Grand Banks
Warmer ocean temperatures are continuing in Canada’s Atlantic Ocean zones, according to the latest released by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Almost no sea ice made it to the Scotian Shelf off Nova Scotia for the fourth consecutive winter, while ice was near normal on the Newfoundland and Labrador shelves. Read the rest here 23:59
