Video shows police officers rescue 3 fishermen from sinking boat in Boston Harbor
Body camera video shows the moment Boston police officers rescued three fishermen from a sinking boat in Boston Harbor on Friday morning. The 90-foot Eileen Rita ran aground on rocks near Green Island in the outer reaches of the harbor shortly before 8 a.m. The boat was taking on water and ended up on its side. All three crewmembers on the boat were wearing their survival suits and waiting for rescue. They were about 15 feet above the water line, “perched atop the gunwale,” according to police. Body camera video from Boston police shows the crewmembers slide along the side of the sinking ship and board the police boat. Video, more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 14:38
For some N.S. fishers, grievances with Liberals outweigh U.S. tariff worries
For some fishers in Nova Scotia this federal election, a lingering sense of grievance toward the Liberals outweighs questions on who can take on U.S. President Donald Trump. Aboard his fishing boat at the wharf in Riverport, N.S., Jason Conrad joined with fellow lobster harvesters Geordy Bennett and Troy Tanner in describing how their loyalties have shifted to the Conservatives over the past decade. “The future doesn’t look great. You’re not sure about investing in the fishery because you don’t where it’s going to be in 10 years,” said Conrad, a 36-year-old captain. Tanner, 51, doesn’t see the new Liberal Leader Mark Carney as an agent of change. “It seems like everyone thinks Carney is the better guy because of Trump. But Trump isn’t the problem. We have our own problems,” he said. more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 10:35
Changing tides: Panel sides with union’s snow crab pricing formula
Its decision was not unanimous, but the provincial Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel has selected the final offer from fish harvesters as the price for snow crab for the 2025 season. The season began in most areas on Thursday, April 10, but it was not until late afternoon that the panel decision was announced. The three-person panel — chaired by Sheilagh Murphy and including Earle McCurdy and Brian Vallis — heard submissions from FFAW-Unifor and the Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) on April 6. While the full written reasons for the majority and dissenting opinions will be made public later, the panel’s letter to the provincial government about its decision indicated Vallis held the lone dissenting opinion among the panel members. more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 08:26
Gulf Coast shrimpers say tariffs are a lifeline for their industry
Shrimpers along the Gulf Coast say they need more help from the federal government with cheap shrimp imports from countries like Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam driving down local demand. With reciprocal tariffs on imports from those countries on hold for 90 days, shrimpers are left wondering if they will get a lifeline, they say they desperately need. Some shrimp farmers are ready to push for measures like capping imports at 25%. Rodney Olander with the Louisiana Shrimp Task Force has been coasting the gulf coast waters for shrimp for more than 40 years. Shrimp season is just a month away. But Rodney said the shrimp industry has been suffering for years. Now he’s working with the Trump administration, hoping to save his business. Video, more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 07:34
