3 rescued after fishing boat runs aground near Ventura Harbor
Three people were rescued May 25 after the 40-foot commercial fishing vessel they were aboard ran aground outside Ventura Harbor near the mouth of the Santa Clara River. The Ventura Harbor Patrol was among the group responding to the water rescue shortly after 12:30 p.m. Harbor Patrol Officer Tim Burrows the agency left the scene by 2:20 p.m., at which point the trawler was considered a salvage operation. Crews with TowBoatUS Ventura were handed the work to recover the vessel, he said. It was not immediately clear if any fluids had leaked from the vessel, Burrows said. more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 20:34
RI Lobsterman Suing State in Federal Court After Incurring Serious Injuries
A Rhode Island lobsterman says he was seriously injured and that the state of Rhode Island is responsible. The lobsterman, Peter Broduer, has filed a federal lawsuit against the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the State of Rhode Island. The 13-page lawsuit was filed in federal court in the District of Rhode Island on Friday. According to Broduer’s lawsuit, “On a summer day in May 2024, Peter Brodeur moved his lobster boat from its berth to a wharf designated by Defendant for loading. He was standing on the wharf loading a lobster trap onto his boat, the marine bulkhead which makes up part of the wharf shifted and he fell down onto the deck of his vessel suffering serious injuries. Now that New York Governor Kathy Hochul has convinced the White House to lift a stop-work order on the massive Empire Wind offshore wind project, energy and policy observers are linking the negotiations to the revival of the proposed Constitution natural gas pipeline. That may be so, but it remains to be seen who gets the last laugh, Hochul or Trump. British fishing boat named after Margaret Thatcher is ‘held hostage’ by the French – days after Keir Starmer’s EU ‘surrender’ over fish
A British fishing boat was in French custody today after allegedly being caught operating without a licence in the English Channel. The Lady T, which is based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, was being held in Boulogne-sur-Mer on Saturday and now risks being confiscated. She was caught by the Pluvier, a French Navy ship, on Thursday, and the catamaran’s skipper now faces prosecution for fishing for whelks without a license.
