DFO POACHER PATROL: DFO blitz nabs Maple Ridge poachers – “I’m using every Fishery officer I have right now,”

A Maple Ridge resident had his boat seized for illegally fishing salmon over the weekend. It was the second boat belonging to a local offender the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has taken during a late-summer enforcement blitz to protect spawning sockeye. Since announcing a closure of all salmon fishing on the lower Fraser River on Aug. 16, the DFO has seized nine vessels, including the two local boats. Conservation officers have seized another five nets from poachers along the Fraser River despite a ban on fishing for all salmon species.Twenty-seven people are being investigated and the DFO is also looking into complaints of illegal fish sales.Poachers can face a fine of up to $100,000 or up to two years in jail if found guilty. more@cbcnews 11:34

DFO POACHER PATROL Working Double Time on the Lower Fraser River

 have doubled their patrols on the lower Fraser River to battle poachers who are illegally catching threatened sockeye salmon to sell into the black market.
