It’s difficult to believe that a man so full of life and vigor has been taken away from us. Doug was not only a great friend but also one of the most friendly and upbeat people you could ever meet.
He was our steady lumper for so many years when I was the owner/operator of the Excalibur. Words can’t explain the skill and tenacity he brought to his craft. Over the years I have seen many men who have been lumper’s, some very good and some not so good. I can say with confidence that Douglas was by far the best I’ve ever seen. When unloading in New Bedford, he alone would take out our trips of fish that would have required having four lumper’s at a time going by their standards. Simply put, he was a machine!
God speed to you my friend, until the day we meet again on the other side.
