Fishing trawler stable after taking on water off southern Labrador

A large fishing trawler is stable but taking on water off of the southern coast of Labrador on Wednesday, according to the Canadian Coast Guard. The Northern Osprey III, a 260-foot factory freezer shrimp boat, made the distress call Sunday, according to Phil Walker of the coast guard. The boat is registered in Halifax but fishes between southern Labrador and Iqaluit. Thirty crew members are aboard the vessel, Walker said. more, >>click to read<< 14:16

Lodge Bay fisherman remembered for his love of life, skills as master mariner

Keith Rumbolt died in a boating mishap last Sunday. He was 51 Keith Rumbolt’s name means many things to many people. To his brother Brad Rumbolt, Keith was a mentor, and his best friend. Family was the centre of Keith’s life, says his brother, and he was the centre of theirs. Keith was  mayor of Lodge Bay, but his impact was felt throughout Labrador. Keith spent most of his working life on the water. He was most recently boatswain  aboard the MV Northern Osprey, and built a strong reputation for his adept leadership and attention to trawls. He worked offshore in the shrimp fishery for more than 30 years. MV Northern Osprey III is equipped with most up-to-date, ‘green’ technology

Scott Nichols, president and CEO of MV Osprey Ltd., says when the company set out to build the Northern Osprey III in 2017, it went out of its way to make sure the systems on board were as environmentally friendly as possible. “Our main engine … it’s more environmentally friendly, as far as fuel consumption goes,” Nichols said. New boat hits the seas for Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company

The Labrador Fishermen’s Union Shrimp Company Ltd (LFUSC) has a new shrimp trawler on the waters for 2018. The Northern Osprey III, newly built in 2017, set sail for the company for the first time this February. The vessel is currently fishing shrimp off the shores of Labrador in Shrimp Fishing Area 5. The vessel belongs to MV Osprey Ltd, a company in which the LFUSC has a 50 per cent share. It is replacing the Northern Eagle in MV Osprey’s fleet. The Northern Eagle, built 1996, has been sold. >click to read<20:42

Northern Osprey III named at Tersan

The new Arctic shrimp trawler Northern Osprey III, built at the Tersan yard in Turkey to Skipsteknisk ST-118 design, is close to completion at Tersan Shipyard in Turkey. Owners MV Osprey of North Sidney, Nova Scotia ordered the new vessel at Tersan Shipyard in November 2015 after intense design development with Skipsteknisk. Northern Osprey III is the third vessel built by the Norwegian emigrant Ulf Snarby at MV Osprey based on ST-design.
