Remembrance Day: Memory of Labrador veteran killed in Afghanistan lives on

Friends and family remember Chad O’Quinn of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L., as being larger than life, someone who enjoyed living on the edge and gave his all to everything he did. Now the family hopes to remind people of their son and the others who died in service. The corporal was serving in Afghanistan when he was killed by a roadside bomb on March 3, 2009. New England’s drive for Canadian hydropower threatens native population’s way of life

Amid the last 20 years of worsening impacts from climate change, environmentalists in the Twin States have scrambled to push state leadership toward ambitious renewable energy goals. And a key component of meeting those goals has been Canadian hydropower, a cost-effective, reliable resource that is often billed as clean, green energy. The New England ISO, which regulates New England’s electricity infrastructure, currently gets 1.4 terawatt hours of electricity from damming projects from the provinces of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, some of which goes to New Hampshire. Shrimp boat crew saves 2 men after float plane crash

Two men are said to be in good shape and good spirits after the float plane they were in crashed during landing in the water near the government dock in Happy Valley-Goose Bay Wednesday evening. They were rescued from the water by some nearby shrimp fishermen. “We got within about a hundred yards [91 metres], I’d say … or maybe closer when the first feller popped up on the pontoon,” said Chris Lethbridge, who was aboard the boat that went out to save them. “[They’re] very lucky the boat was here.” The shrimp fisherman just happened to be staying on their boat Bailey Grace overnight so they could get an early start Thursday morning. >click to read<08:15
