I was asked to join the NTAP (Northeast Trawl Advisory Panel) by NEFMC and I did because I believed could help, because I am quite knowledgeable about fishing and how to get fishing gear to fish properly. In the year 2000, I was on the spring survey of the R/V Albatross, and I was told by some of the crew who were x-commercial fishermen, that when the net was hauled you would not like the results. (so true) At that time, my vessel which was a side-trawler was using 60-80 net as the Albatross was using. Fishermen To Replace NOAA With NEFSA Due to Reliance on Inaccurate Data to Set Catch Quota
NOAA which has the task of managing and safeguarding the nation’s marine resources, sets catch quotas to ensure sustainable fishing practices annually. However, it has been discovered from an investigation that the agency uses heavily outdated and incomplete information to estimate its fish and marine life population, and subsequently set fish catch quotas’ sets quotas for particular species based on data it collects from its research vessels. NOAA’s research vessel for the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic is the Henry B. Bigelow, homeported in Newport, Rhode Island, U.S.A. Third North Atlantic Right Whale Mortality of 2018 Confirmed
On Sunday, October 14, the NOAA vessel Henry B. Bigelow reported a sighting of a whale carcass floating about 100 miles east of Nantucket. After review of photographs by experts today, the carcass has been confirmed to be a North Atlantic right whale. The whale was at least 35 feet long, making it a sub-adult. This is the third known right whale mortality of 2018. The carcass is severely decomposed, but photographs show multiple wounds indicative of human interaction. The initial examination revealed marks consistent with entanglement. However, at this stage is it too early to speculate on the cause of the death. >click to read<08:16
