N.C. watermen – Riding along was an unwelcome passenger – a sea turtle observer

Flounder fishermen Britton Shackelford and Caine Livesay motored over the Roanoke Sound at dawn Tuesday in a 17-foot skiff toward the first of seven gill nets.  The state issued an edict in August that commercial gill net fishermen must get a permit as part of a program to track encounters with endangered sea turtles. Allowing observers on fishing trips is necessary to retain the permit and keep fishing. Read the rest here 08:51
