NEFMC giving $450K to fish research projects
The New England Fishery Management Council is funding the work. One project will seek to develop ways for cod and haddock fishermen to avoid accidentally catching flatfish in Georges Bank. Another will assess the performance of fishing gear designed to avoid accidental catch of windowpane flounder. A third project seeks to improve capture and handling methods for haddock discarded in recreational Gulf of Maine fisheries. A final project will assess recreational haddock discard mortality on Jeffreys Ledge. Read the rest here 06:54
More tax payer money being wasted on useless research grants . We already have the perfect net ,that eliminates flat-fish by catch and codfish by catch . The chain-raised foot rope trawl has been around since 1990s , and I and many other fishing captains who have used this net which, is the best eliminator of by catch in our life time of fishing in the G.O.M., THE PROBLEM IS G.O.M. HAS STRICTER REGULATIONS HOW THE NET IS RIGGED THAN SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND GEORGES BANK AREAS .
NEFMC SHOULD REALIZE THAT NETS CATCH FISH AND THE LONGER THE LEGS AND GROUND CABLES ARE, THIS CATCHES YOUR BY-CATCH !!
USE CHAIN-RAISED FOOTROPE TRAWL AS SPECIFIED , TO BE USED IN GULF OF MAINE THROUGH OUT ALL AREAS, BY-CATCH WILL BE GREATLY REDUCED !!
That will buy one PANT LOAD of COMPUTERS. Can Hillary’s SERVER support that many???
