EDF’s campaign to implement catch shares in our nation’s fisheries is not only misguided, but it is a serious threat to the livelihoods of the majority of American fishermen. Fishermen beware: you are gazing directly into the friendly eyes of a lion in sheep’s clothing! This is one of those panacea, cure-all fixes for fisheries management which NGO’s love to promote because they are easy sells to the legions of non-fishing folks who are easily convinced that something needs to be saved because EDF tells them so and they don’t have enough other information to know any better. 6 years ago Jane pushed the EDF catch shares through, they claimed it would single handedly bring back the cod to New England. Now they say the cod is worse than ever here.
HR 1335 has a REQUIRED 2/3 Majority vote clause that includes hired captains and crewmen.
Well done Mr. Platt. The trouble with all of this is EDF has the bully pulpit with all of their minions in positions of power within the agencies that dictate policy from the den of thieves that reside in DC. Until these anti American assholes are rooted out of the system expect more of the same.
