NEFMC Undertakes Independent Review to Assess Past Performance and Solicit Suggestions for Improvement
The New England Fishery Management Council is undergoing an independent review to: (1) assess past performance; (2) gather feedback on strengths and weaknesses of the Council process and operations; and (3) identify potential areas for improvements. Stakeholder input is critical to this review. The Council is encouraging commercial and recreational fishermen, industry leaders, fishery managers, members of non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to participate in the effort. What has NEFMC done for the Gulf of Maine Fisheries in last twenty-five years ? Not a very good showing because they lack good fish knowledge & expertises, that commercial fishermen have because of many years of fishing in G.of Maine but yet , TODAY G.of Maine Fishermen’s expertises knowledge is never used because ??? Gulf of Maine fishermen are stewards of our ocean and fish every day they can and truly know fish conditions ,where as N.E.F.M.C. basically sees low fish landing because 75% of Gulf of Maine fisherman are now gone because your poor management & poor science .
I BELIEVE GULF OF MAINE FISHERMEN AND THEIR COASTAL COMMUNITIES COULD DO A BETTER JOB MANAGING OUR COASTAL FISHERIES. LOOKING FOR SUPPORT ON THIS ISSUE AND CHANCE TO PROVE MY BELIEFS ,
GOOD MOVE BY N.E.F.M.C., realizes that their system is broken and now wants to fix it ? In the past I attended N,E,F.M.C. MEETINGS , FISHERMEN would talked ,but words never seemed to be heard or were wanted to be heard by most of council members .Most fishermen believed all decisions were pre-determined ? Today most fishermen have stop attending Fishery Management Council Meeting because of this situation ?
Our Fishery Management Councils, through out the United States are not up today’s world fishing standards and must be FIXED ???
