Charges Dropped Against Wind Farm Protesters in Ocean City
Charges against six wind farm opponents arrested in a rally last September in Ocean City were dropped this week and their records were expunged. About 60 protesters attended the rally with the goal of stopping workers from drilling holes in the street in an early step in Orsted’s proposed Ocean Wind 1 project. When police asked protesters to relocate about 10 feet from the site, many did. Six others didn’t. After they laid down in the street, they were arrested and charged with two disorderly persons offenses, failure to disperse and obstruction of highways or public pathways. Fraud, breach of trust charges dropped against former Baffin Fisheries Coalition CEO
Garth Reid, 52, was charged in March 2021 with fraud over $5,000 and criminal breach of trust, stemming from his time as the company’s leader between October 2016 and April 2017. In the fall of 2017, Baffin Fisheries terminated Reid and sued him in civil court for $1.4 million, alleging that he built on his private property in Winterton, N.L. and billed the company for the work. In a statement of defence, Reid denied the allegations against him and said if any payments were made by Baffin Fisheries for his own property, he didn’t know about it and they were done out of negligence by the company. Carla Samson’s charges dropped in Phillip Boudreau ‘murder for lobster’ case
The Crown has dropped charges against a Cape Breton woman charged in the death of a fisherman whose body has never been found. Carla Samson had been facing a charge of accessory after the fact in the death of Phillip Boudreau, who disappeared on June 1, 2013. Monday morning, the Crown announced it was calling no evidence and dropping the charge in the case which has become known as the ‘murder for lobster’ case. Read the rest here 11:14
