U.S. Coast Guard officials are investigating the death of an apparent 40-year-old man on board the 107-foot, Gloucester-based fishing trawler Osprey, and Gloucester police have been called in to join the investigation when the vessel arrives in port here later this afternoon. continued@gloucesterdailytimes
1st A Coast Guard representative said the initial call regarding an incident on board came at 3:45 a.m. today and indicated that a crew member was undergoing a “severe asthma” attack while the vessel was some 65 miles off the Cape Cod town of Chatham. The Coast Guard also indicated that a fellow crew member attempted to administer CPR. The Coasty Guard then ordered the boat to the port it could reach the quickest — and the Osprey headed for Gloucester.
2nd Gloucester Police have joined with U.S. Coast Guard officials in investigating the death of a 40-year-old man on board the 107-foot, Gloucester-based fishing trawler Osprey after the vessel arrived in port off Harbor Loop late this afternoon.
Neither Coast Guard nor local officials have identified the dead man or outlined the focus of the investigation. But police officers joined in boarding the vessel shortly after it arrived at roughly 4:35 after a more than 12-hour trip back to port. A Gloucester Police K9 drug unit joined in a search of the boat for potential evidence.
3rd Officials with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office tonight have identified the man as Michael Grindle, with addresses listed both in Gloucester and in Blue Hill, Maine.
