UK fishing vessel sinks off Mizen Head
Shortly after 9 o’clock (yesterday) morning Valentia Coast Guard was alerted to a vessel in difficulty approximately 60 miles South West of Mizen Head. The UK registered fishing vessel F/V Piedras was reported to be taking on water and had lost propulsion. Shortly after raising the alert the crew of 11 decided to abandon the vessel and transfer to another fishing vessel, the F/V Armaven. No injuries were reported. Major sea rescue operation 60 miles off West Cork after trawler with 11-crew caught fire
A multi-agency marine rescue operation has been underway off the Cork Coast after a trawler with 11-crewmembers on board caught fire and began sinking earlier this morning. Shortly after 9 O’clock this morning, Valentia Coast Guard was alerted to a vessel in difficulty approximately 60 miles South West of Mizen Head. Four fishermen rescued from liferaft after fishing vessel fire off the Cork coast
Shortly before 2am this morning, Valentia Coast Guard was alerted to a fire on board the ‘Horizon’ fishing vessel around 20 miles south east of the Old Head of Kinsale. A multi-agency response co-ordinated by the Valentia Coast Guard,,, Within minutes of the mayday alert being issued, the crew abandoned the vessel to their liferaft as the fire had engulfed their boat. Shortly afterwards, the crew was recovered from their liferaft by the Offshore Supply ship Pathfinder that had been operating at the Kinsale Gas field. >photos, click to read< 07:52
‘It’s a terribly bleak day’: Search continues for missing fisherman in west cork
A low water search is to continue tomorrow for a young fisherman missing off the West Cork coast. The man, named locally as Kodie Healy, who is in his 20s, is now feared drowned. The popular young man played football locally and comes from a well-known and well-liked local fishing family. Mr Healy left the shore at 7.30am on Wednesday on his 21ft boat to tend lobster pots.
