Fishing Boat Raised From the Deep and Docked in Point Pleasant, But Will Be ‘Re-Sunk’

Crews from Northstar Marine led the effort to re-float the Susan Rose, which ran aground Nov. 17, 2023, after its captain missed a turn into Manasquan Inlet and ended up in the surf in Point Pleasant Beach. Salvage crews attempted to tow the boat to deeper water in the days that followed, however uncooperative weather and a broken tow line led to it sinking in about 100-feet of water a few thousand yards off the beach. Though rumors circulated that the Susan Rose, owned by The Town Dock Inc. of Narragansett, R.I., would be dismantled and sold for scrap, it will remain intact and ultimately be transported back to the ocean where it will be re-sunk. “The vessel owners are planning to donate [the boat] to the New Jersey Artificial Reef Program,” said Hajna. “The vessel will need to be cleaned and meet specific criteria before that can occur.” Video, Photos, more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 06:56

Resolve Marine has raised the wreck of the grounded fishing vessel Susan Rose, removing a navigation hazard just south of Asbury Park. The 77-foot trawler Susan Rose ran aground on Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey in November 2023. Boats Damaged After Trawler Incident at Dingle Marina in County Kerry

A marina pontoon and several small craft berthed at Dingle Harbour in County Kerry were damaged on Saturday, November 26th, by a trawler manoeuvring in the harbour. Local reports say the visiting trawler was reversing at the time of the incident, as captured in this video below by YouTuber Tommy B. Several small motorboats, RIBs, and the southern section of the marina infrastructure were capsized or damaged in the collision with the trawler. >click to watch< 10:19

5 miles of seals: Newfoundland fisherman’s video fires up more debate about pinnipeds

Fisherman Jason Branton was steaming home after a crab fishing trip a week ago when he saw something he’d never witnessed before. The 45-ft longliner Gracie’s Adventure was about 60 miles out from Baccalieu Island, in Trinity Bay, on May 30 when Branton and the crew noticed seals all around them. They had encountered a large herd of seals, a patch about five miles wide,, adding this is also the time when capelin begin migrating inshore. Branton and his crew rely mainly on crab, capelin and cod for their fishing income. B.C. fish processors spewing potentially dangerous bloodwater into key salmon migration corridor

Salmon farming in British Columbia has long faced controversy, with concerns about fish escapes, antibiotic use, and the spread of viruses and sea lice. Most of the anger and calls for change have been directed at fish farms, but CTV News has obtained video footage that shows fish processing plants may be contributing to problems as well. The New England groundfish debacle (Part III): who or what is at fault? Nils E. Stolpe/FishNet

It took me a while to decide how to most accurately describe the situation that has been visited upon the New England fishing communities that are and since colonial times have been dependent on the groundfish fisheries.

While it’s a fact that’s hardly ever acknowledged, the assumption in fisheries management is that if the population of a stock of fish isn’t at some arbitrary level, it’s because of too much fishing. Hence the term “overfished.” Hence the mandated knee jerk reaction of the fisheries managers to not enough fish; cut back on fishing. What of other factors? They don’t count. It’s all about fishing, because fishing is all that the managers can control; it’s their Maslow’s Hammer. When it comes to the oceans it seems as if it’s about all that the industry connected mega-foundations that support the anti-fishing ENGOs with hundreds of millions of dollars a year in “donations” are interested in controlling.
