Last haul? As Georgetown eyes redevelopment, shrimpers brace for end of working waterfront

Timmy Jordan has spent most of his 49 years on the water. No wife. No kids. Just days and nights of dragging coastal waterway bottoms for shrimp, hoping for a good haul. But over the last few months, he has grappled with the stages of grief — denial, anger, bargaining and depression. He’s been preparing to moor his trawler alongside sailboats scattered in the Sampit River because he and this city’s other five shrimp boat owners were told the dock at the end of Cannon Street will close this month. The target date for the closure has been fluid since last year as the Tarbox family worked through selling Independent Seafood, the former wholesale market on the dock that originally opened in 1939. The shrimpers have tried to find open dock space from the North Carolina line toward Georgia but have been told no one has room. For them, an anchor is the only option. “This is my life ending,” Jordan said aboard his Miss Lue. “This is death for us that’s been in the business for so many years. We’re dying. It’s dying, and we’re dying with it.” 63 photos, more, >>click to read<< 11:55

No imported shrimp should be allowed
until the government makes dock space for our USA shrimp fishermen and their boats!!!

Not a bad idea, Jay. The community, local, and extended shrimper community should rally to give these guys some breathing room, and try to raise some money in the interest of acquiring it. Once that is gone, its gone forever, and that would be a shame.

Ironically, as I read this I’m watching the news. (NOT LAMESTREAM MEDIA)
They are showing the French farmers protesting their government’s positions that are destroying their businesses. They are dumping organic waste at government buildings and offices. Tractor convoys disrupting traffic. Putting giant bales of hay on roads to get their point across.
Here in America sadly, it seems that the will to commit civil disobedience has become something of the past.
While the people in France are not afraid. Strength in numbers.
Something tells me that the people from the Greatest Generation are collectively rolling over in their graves, seeing what pussies we’ve become.
How have we allowed these empty suit globalist elite sons a bitches do this to us? I’m saddened by what it seems like my children and grandchildren are going to have to deal with in the future if we the people don’t take a stand against this government takeover.
        MOLON LABE!

The only ones for civil disobedience are climate activists, and the Defund the Police crowd, never the ones you would hope to see, if you know what I mean. When we were kids, me and my friends played Combat like Vic Morrow. Kids are much more sophisticated. today. They throw soup at the Mona Lisa.
