Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: Chapter 25.76 Lobster Minimum Size

This proposed rule-making incorporates the minimum lobster size required by Addendum XXVII: Increasing Protection of the Gulf of Maine/Georges Bank Spawning Stock that was originally approved by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) in May 2023. In October 2024 Addendum XXXI postponed the implementation of certain measures from Addendum XXVII to July 1, 2025. For compliance with the current Interstate Fisheries Management Plan, this regulation implements changing the minimum size of lobster from 3 ¼ inches to 3 5/16 inches, effective July 1, 2025. more, >>CLICK TO READ<< 09:43

For the record I’m dead against this measure increase I believe this is another tool to put fishermen out of business I don’t think we the Maine fishermen are well enough represented and I have 0 faith in our commissioner I feel he’s working against us no fishermen, dealers ,processors want this increase, When you don’t listen to the people you are teetering on the edge of communism also I believe ASFS should be abolished every state should be in control of their own fishery and should not be pressured by other states or pressure other states or countries to follow the narrative. We the Fishermen feel under constant attack and we are getting fed up with this bullshit.

Your opinion falls in line with the other fishermen on both the proposed increase, and lack of faith in the regulators. I support your opinion.

  3. Dillan S says:

Absolutely no need to increase the measure. State needs to start taking real surveys on how many juvenile lobsters are on bottom. More than ever before.

Going back to the implementation of the 200 mile limit (AKA) the Magnuson Stevens Act there has been one constant. The Government is not a friend of the fishing industry.
It makes me wonder if this has been an attempt to get rid of small independent family owned businesses in favor of the multi national corporations that now control much of our fisheries resources.
One fact remains, it’s the insatiable appetite of the government for control. Just look at what has happened to the freedoms that we always took for granted under the bill or rights and the constitution. Control over every aspect of our lives are being implemented at an alarming pace. Appointed beurocrats put in place by the same people who we vote into office. The same people who look you in the eye and lie to your face. Politicians who are bought off and sell you out continually.
Offshore wind now controls our coastal waters, and the politicians who have been elected to protect our rights. Piece by piece through rules such as gage increases, fish population studies that are total bullshit, and everything else that is designed to remove those who stand in the way of their insatiable lust for more. More control, more money, more everything.
So just add this gage increase to the ongoing list of rules and regulations that are designed to destroy not save our coastal communities.
Believe nothing you hear or read. Trust your gut and believe your eyes. That is the only truth that matters.
