At the last NE Fisheries Management Council Meeting, Dr. Brian Rothschild’s suggestion of cooperative Yellowtail surveys using video techniques on commercial fishing vessels—that would actually supply some accurate and useful data—was met with blank stares.

Council members were worried about where would the money come from, and wouldn’t those extry research fishies put us over the over-fishing threshold—and wouldn’t we all then go straight to overfishing hell.

But, a new $75million 208 foot West Coast “Fisheries” research vessel and $800,000 in response to Oceana’s “by-catch” crisis du jour—No Problema!
