Gulf of Maine: ‘Poster child’ for global warming
Long-established species of commercial fish, like cod, herring and northern shrimp, are departing for colder waters. Black sea bass, blue crabs and new species of squid — all highly unusual for the Gulf — are turning up in fishermen’s nets. The Gulf of Maine’s warming reflects,, Lots of info that appears to be new.BH Read the rest here 07:54
I’ve known about the shift to the eastward, the black sea bass, the blue crab pulled out of Gloucester Harbor, and the not recognized by the scientists cod renascence in Newfoundland, but the rising water is a new revelation in GoM. They’ve said it was happening, but this is the first article with an anecdotal mention of it really happening.
Peter Baker should consult with his Pew colleagues and get on the same page.
If in the end this is the nightmare we all fear, I realize this will make no difference, but these ENGOs have been blaming fishermen for the demise, and they should now be dismantled and forever ridiculed.
The ENGOs response to the environmental factors is …More Restrictive fishing regulations! When Pew’s Jeff Young says we have to deal with this (warming temps.) situation chances are good he’s not talking about calling out the polluters; he’s talking about less TAC for all. The ENGOs will not go after the root causes of this pestilence—that’s where they get their funding!
Avoiding the next fishing disaster by Peter Baker
If the scene sounds familiar, that’s because we’re in the midst of another fishery disaster 20 years later. Once again, overfishing has forced populations of cod and some other bottom dwellers, known as “groundfish,” to the brink of collapse, triggering a disaster declaration in 2012. The sense of déjà vu is unavoidable as fishermen and officials now debate the distribution of roughly $33 million dollars in federal assistance.
A direct contrast to Jeff Young’s statement in this article.

And of course, the theft of the resource!
Illegal Fishing Puts the Rest of Us on the Hook

It’s so warm, I couldn’t even go swimming at Humarock Beach on Sunday morning. The water was too cold at @ 62!
You never hear anything about the 11 year Solar Cycle.
In 1999 & 2000 I was jigging for Large Cod in a T-Shirt in Feb. of those Years.
In 2011 and 2012 I saw 72.5 Degree F. Surface Water Temperatures all the way up to Boothbay Me. while Tuna fishing. While Shrimping in Feb. 2012 we saw 45 Degree F. as opposed to 35 Degrees this Year.
Peter Baker will say or put in his mouth anything PEW tells him too. He’s paid very well and has a very generous Expense Account to do so.
Peter Baker is so off base, if he wasn’t paid by Pew, he’d be striking with the fast food workers looking to make 15 bucks an hour.
I feel sorry for you guys and gals, the “fishers” of New England. You don’t stand a chance, they have made your fishing grounds ground zero for the mythical fight against man made global warming.
This propoganda is showing up all over the place, not CBS is piling on! http://www.cbsnews.com/news/warming-maine-waters-imperil-lobster-and-fish-catches/
Plenty of balk, though. Everyone knows its BS. Rising water? Where? The water is cooler this year.
