28 accidents reported since crab season began off Oregon, Washington
Since the commercial Dungeness crab season began on January 15th, Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Portland marine investigators have responded to 28 marine accidents involving commercial fishing vessels, with no reported deaths or serious injuries. Since the start of the season, Marine Safety Unit Portland personnel responded to an average of one marine accident per day, causalities included loss of propulsion, loss of steering, loss of power, fire, collisions, grounding and personnel injuries. >click to read< 17:13
TSB report into deaths of 3 fishermen in Tabusintac released
Weeks after a small lobster boat grounded on a sandbar in Tabusintac Bay last year and sunk, killing all three people on board, five additional green buoys were added to the narrow channel, a report by the Transportation Safety Board reveals. Read the rest here 12:34
The Coast Guard rescued two men from a grounded F/V Mirage near Sitka Monday
No injuries to the crew or damage to the vessel were reported. The vessel is reported to have approximately 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard. The crew of the Mirage will attempt to refloat the vessel on the morning high tide Tuesday. The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the situation and is investigating the cause of the grounding. uscgnews Read more here 17:48
