New Jersey: Testa Bill that Exempts Commercial Fishermen from State Unemployment Tax Advances

The bill, S-3501, would exempt commercial fisherman who are paid on the percentage of fish caught or a percentage of the selling price of those fish from the state unemployment law and its costly tax on earnings. “This bill will be a big help for New Jersey fisheries, an industry that has been hit hard by the pandemic and one that the state’s economy depends on,” said Michael Testa (R-1). “It will allow hard working, skilled fisherman to keep more of their hard-earned income, a change that suits the independent nature of the proud individuals who make their living at sea.” >click to read< 18:34

Donovan Bill, 2020-H 7261, Would Ban Release of Balloons

The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing on Tuesday on legislation introduced by Representative Susan Donovan. The legislation attempts to protect the environment and wildlife by banning the intentional release of balloons into the air. Dead sea creatures continually wash up on our shores, their stomachs filled with plastic debris or bodies tangled in the strings of released balloons. Louisiana House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill Monday that aims to simplify regulations on shrimp nets

State Rep. Joe Harrison, R-Napoleonville, and Gordy Dove, R-Houma, co-authored House Bill 440, which changes the law dictating how shrimpers can hang their nets from the side of a boat.
