Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater medevacs ailing fisherman
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 51-year-old man was medevaced from a 65-foot from F/V Capt Gorman III by the Coast Guard 150 miles northwest of Clearwater, Florida, Wednesday. Rescued was crewmember Randy Halloway who was experiencing chest pains and needed emergency medical assistance. Watch the video here 12:30
NOAA research ship Rainier puking oil all over Kodiak Island’s Womens Bay
Hall says the incident is being investigated. Gamble says the spill was traced to a rupture in the vessel’s bulkhead between a fuel tank and a water tank. Absorbent boom and a fuel skimmer have been employed at the site. Read the rest here 10:57
Time to unplug Cape Wind
I read with interest the report on the Fishermen’s Association (Sept. 4, “Two Island fishermen’s groups steer different courses”). It has served its purpose it seems by relinquishing and reversing the opinion of the fishermen to protect Horseshoe Shoal for fish, namely fluke and flounder, and take the promised $1.25 million. 10:43
Maine lobster fishery under double MSC assessment
The MSC did not respond to request for comment on why a second assessment was being done for the fishery, and it remains unclear why a second assessment would be necessary for a fishery that is already certified. A source said companies that were not included in the original assessment were blocked from being able to take market advantage of the certification and were taking legal action to become included as of last spring.
